FAQ

Is 100-Pin Bowling in Switch Sports Resort at launch?
Yes. Day-one gameplay uploaded on October 23, 2026 shows 100-Pin Game selected straight from the Bowling menu, with no unlock step appearing on screen.
How do you strike in 100-Pin Bowling?
Move to the far right or left of the approach, keep the throw steady and straight along the edge, and hit the hidden switch beside the lane — all 100 pins fall.
Is the Secret Strike an official feature or a glitch?
It is a hidden edge switch, demonstrated repeatedly in day-one videos. The Secret Strike name carries over from the Wii Sports Resort community; Nintendo has not documented it.
How many pins and frames are in 100-Pin Bowling?
100 pins in one rack. The day-one gameplay scorecard shows a ten-frame game, matching the Wii Sports Resort format.
Can you play 100-Pin Bowling online?
Not verified. Published footage only shows local solo play. Bowling itself is one of the nine online sports, but Nintendo has not published a mode-level online split.
What is the difference between 100-Pin Bowling and standard Bowling?
Pin count and lane width: 100 pins on an extra-wide lane versus ten pins on a standard lane. The swing-and-twist Joy-Con controls stay the same.
Did 100-Pin Bowling exist in older games?
Yes. Outside Xtra notes it first appeared in Wii Sports Resort and was last seen in Wii Sports Club before returning here.

What is 100-Pin Bowling in Switch Sports Resort?

100-Pin Bowling is a Bowling variant that stacks one hundred pins in a single rack on an extra-wide lane. The in-game mode label reads 100-Pin Game, as shown on screen in NintendoCade’s day-one gameplay. Outside Xtra tried the mode at a Nintendo event before launch and described it as something “you definitely wouldn’t be able to do at your local bowling alley” — a hundred pins need a lane far wider than a standard one.

The mode is a series veteran: per Outside Xtra, it first appeared in Wii Sports Resort, was last seen in Wii Sports Club, and now makes a return on Wuhu Island. For the parent sport’s controls, variants, and review context, read the main Bowling guide.

Is 100-Pin Bowling available at launch or unlocked later?

It is playable from day one — no unlock step appears on screen. NintendoCade’s gameplay, uploaded October 23, 2026 (the day after release), opens with the player selecting 100-Pin Game directly from the Bowling menu. That is video evidence of availability, not a documented unlock chart: if a progress gate exists deeper in the menus, no published footage shows it.

How do you play 100-Pin Bowling?

You swing the Joy-Con like a ball release and twist it for spin — the same motion as standard Bowling, aimed at a rack a hundred pins wide. Nintendo’s official overview describes the swing-plus-twist spin mechanic for Bowling, and the variant keeps that input. Game Informer and CGMagazine’s reviews note that release timing matters less than accuracy and spin compared with the Wii entries, which holds for the wide rack too: a straight, edge-hugging line is easier to repeat than a power shot.

The day-one scorecard shown by NintendoCade displays a ten-frame game, matching the Wii Sports Resort 100-pin format where one strike can carry bonus pins through the following throws. For controller options, see the controllers compatibility guide and the cross-sport controls overview.

How do you do the Secret Strike in 100-Pin Bowling?

Roll the ball down the very edge of the lane to hit a hidden switch — all 100 pins drop. NintendoCade’s day-one tutorial spells out the steps on camera:

  1. Move all the way to the right (or the left, if you prefer — the creator demonstrates from the right side).
  2. Stay steady and straight — the throw has to track the edge without drifting into the gutter.
  3. Hit the hidden switch at the side of the lane. As the video puts it: “as long as you go straight down and hit the switch and you get a strike.”

The trick repeats: the same run chains several of these strikes back-to-back and ends on a new personal record shown on screen. The name Secret Strike is community vocabulary carried over from the Wii Sports Resort era — Sirloin’s short clip uses it in the title — and it is not confirmed as official in-game wording. Nintendo has not documented the hidden switch anywhere public.

Can you play 100-Pin Bowling online or in Island Crown?

Unknown — published footage only shows local solo play. Bowling as a sport sits in the nine-sport online rotation (Casual Online and Pro League) and the Island Crown ladder, but Nintendo has never published a per-mode online split, and no day-one video shows 100-Pin Game in an online lobby or a Crown run. Treat any claim that the mode supports specific online player counts as unverified — the store’s 2–16 online figure covers the whole game, not this mode.

For structure around the mode, read online play and NSO and local multiplayer.
